Artist Interview with Jason Brian Fox, Announcing His Upcoming Exhibition at YES Gallery Fri, 01/27
Jason Brian Fox is excited to announce his upcoming exhibition at YES Gallery on Friday, January 27th where he will showcase 8 pieces in their show “You Arrive in a Wisper, A Wild Hope.” This week, I had an artist interview with Jason Brian Fox where we discussed his art and more about how he got connected with YES Gallery.
Jason first started creating art in middle school and remembered how he was often encouraged by his mother and teachers. After graduating high school, Jason enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm and was later decorated for his service.
Jason found many challenges after returning home from war, but art became a safe place and an emotional outlet for Jason during his transition into normalcy. Knowing that art would be a pivotal part of his healing, Jason enrolled in the Academy of Art in Highland Park, New Jersey, where his teachers often encouraged him to submit his work for open calls at different exhibitions.

Jason has been dedicated to his craft ever since, learning new ways to create moving and inspiring pieces of art. His work has been displayed all throughout the east coast in several solo and group exhibitions including the SoHo Art Show 2019 (group exhibition) at Dacia Gallery in New York City; Thoughts at the Speed of Light 2021(solo exhibition) at Gallery on Main in Somerville, New Jersey; Veterans Day Exhibition 2021 (group exhibition) at Inspire Art Gallery in Dunellen, New Jersey; and the Art Fair 14 C Veterans Exhibition curated by Ivy Brown in 2022 (group exhibition) at the Jersey City Armory in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Though he’s experimented with several different art mediums, Jason has been drawn to fluid art, focusing on watercolors and acrylic pours. Some of his favorite pieces include Thoughts at the Speed of Light (2017) and Critical Mass (2012).

He said, “Thoughts at the Speed of Light was an anchor piece for my first solo exhibition, and it was the first watercolor I sold. Critical Mass was another important piece for me. It was given the excellence award from the jury in The Heart of The Veteran Exhibition 2022 at The Medford Art Center.”

You can find his art at the YES Gallery, where he is represented as an artist on their roster. In our interview, Jason explained that one of his favorite exhibits he’s been featured in was Art Fair 14C because it led to his relationship with the YES’s gallery director, Jannie Wolff. He said, “We had a great conversation and have similar values when it comes to the importance of art and our roles in that world. She invited me to see the exhibition space, as we talked some more, I felt her gallery was a good fit for me. I have 8 pieces in the upcoming exhibition there titled 'You Arrive in a Wisper, A Wild Hope.' It opens Friday, January 27, 2023. The YES Gallery is located at 408 6th Street in Hoboken, New Jersey.”

When I asked Jason what inspires him to create, he said this: “It may sound morbid, but life is temporary and that motivates me to create work that will be remembered and appreciated beyond my lifetime.” Driven by healing and making sense of our human existence, Jason Brian Fox is using his artistic gift to inspire and encourage others.
